*originally recorded on 12-22-21*

Signal on the far left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the far right: a Safetran gate mechanism and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the near left: 1 pair of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the near right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

After catching the two Amtraks meeting, @Bigmindcreator TS and I met-up over at this crossing, where we saw that an eastbound train was coming, so we went ahead and set-up. A few minutes later, this eastbound NS mixed freight came rolling through with a rather nice lash-up: a pair of Dash-9s leading an ES44AC.

This crossing is another nice one. It appears that originally, this crossing had a pair of gated cantilever signals installed by the Southern Railway back in the 1970s. Then, in the early 2000s, the crossing was upgraded to a quad-gate crossing (along with the rest along the Piedmont corridor), and most of the lights were replaced, though thankfully, NS kept two pairs of the original Safetran 12x24 inch lights on the overhead of each cantilever arm. The crossing actually still retained a Safetran mechanical bell after this upgrade, but it was sadly replaced with the current Safetran Type 3 sometime between 2005 and 2007. Since then, it appears that no major changes have occurred to this crossing, thankfully.
The far-side exit signal also lacks any lights on it, which is a bit unusual looking, but it ain't the only crossing on the NS Danville District in the Raleigh/Durham area with an exit signal like that. In fact, I think Academy Street #2 was the only quad-gate crossing I'd filmed on this day with lights on all four signals.
