*originally recorded on 12-21-22*

Signal on the left: 3 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights and a dying Modern Industries mechanical bell.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights and a dead WCH mechanical bell.

The next crossing we chased M531 to was this crossing in Waverly, which features the only gateless crossing left along the line with two mechanical bells, as well as the last remaining MI bell along the Bruceton Sub. For whatever reason, the train got held-up at the siding on the east side of Waverly, but it wasn't too long of a delay, it seems.
Unfortunately, the WCH mechanical bell here has died and the MI bell is also on its way out, but thankfully the latter one still works. I'd known these bells were like this thanks to a comment from another railfan in this area, but I figured it'd still be worth recording even if the bells had been replaced already (which they haven't, at least yet). Hopefully CSX fixes both of them, but I wouldn't be too surprised if this crossing eventually gets at least one new NEG e-bell.
Either way though, this is a rather nice crossing featuring a gateless 1980s CSX install, that pretty much hasn't changed since it was installed. I suspect they replaced a gateless L&N install (possibly from the 1970s?), as the far signal features the aforementioned MI bell that appears to be reused. The WCH lights here are all nice and bright with well faded backgrounds though, which is rather nice to see.
Hopefully, other than repairs to the bells, this crossing remains unchanged for many more years to come. Either way though, this is still a very nice crossing and I'm glad I got to record it.
