Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
After shooting the southbound, we moved over to the next crossing south and waited for the northbound here. After a few minutes of waiting, the seventh train of the day I caught came through: NS 26C with a pair of ES44DCs for power.
This crossing's another great one, being a fully-original late-SOU install from the early-1980s, back when the Southern Railway was experimenting with equipment, trying to figure-out what the then-new NS should use. It's pretty easy to tell that the 80s NS installs basically descended from this style of late-SOU install though, the two look almost identical (only major differences I've noticed have been the counterweight arms, relay cases, and gate mech heights).
Unfortunately the bell here sounds a bit worn-out as well, so hopefully NS gives this one a bit of TLC too. Either way though, I'm quite glad to have been able to record this one as well. Hopefully it remains unchanged for many more years to come though, outside of some needed TLC for the bell here.
