Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Modern Industries 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.

After catching the northbound NS mixed freight, I went back south to this crossing in the community of Carbondale, GA, and set-up here for my next train. After a little bit of waiting, this northbound grain(?) train through with an NS Dash-9 leading a UP AC45CCTE and an NS SD70ACC for power! Definitely nice to be able to get a second Dash-9 leader in a row.

This crossing is another nice one, featuring a late-SOU/early-NS install from the early-1980s, though with 12x20 inch lights rather than the typical 12x24 inch lights these installs used. It appears that most of the upgrades occurred here in the 2000s, with the far signal having its lights and gate mech replaced at about that time with the current Safetran equipment, and the closer signal had its bell replaced with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. Since then, the only notable change here was that the closer signal had its original counterweight arms replaced with the current ones sometime between 2007 and 2016, but otherwise, these signals have thankfully remained unchanged since the 2000s. The MI 12x20s here are definitely a bit unique, as the late-SOU/early-NS typically used 24 inch backgrounds on their MI lights. It's definitely possible the backgrounds here aren't original, but, if they aren't, they would've had to have been replaced no sooner than about the mid-90s based on the fading on them. Either way, this was still a nice crossing and I'm glad to have been able to get it filmed.
