*originally recorded on 9-16-23*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a WCH Type 1.5 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
This crossing was the sixth crossing I chased the Summerville Steam Special to, and it's a very nice one. The signals here were installed by the Southern Railway back in the late-1970s, and are thankfully still largely original. Sometime between 2007 and 2013, however, the original Safetran mechanical bell here was sadly replaced with the current WCH e-bell.
Thankfully, since then, no major changes have occurred to this crossing. For whatever reason, the CCKY has never upgraded this crossing to LED, despite the signals having 8 inch lights. As such, this crossing is the last 8 inch crossing on the CCKY, so I'm glad I was able to get it shot on this chase. The crossing also still retains a pair of older diagonally-striped gate arms here, which are quite nice to see as well. Hopefully the classic equipment here remains in use for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I got to record it in action.
