Pedestrian Crossing, Wataga, IL

*originally recorded on 11-20-23*
The lone signal here features a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
After the coal train came through, I was able to hit the road for Wataga once again, to get the first of the two remaining bell-only crossings on the Mendota Sub filmed. A little bit after I got here, I was able to shoot this westbound empty coal train rolling through with an ES44AC pulling on the head-end, and another ES44AC working as the train's DPU.
This crossing is a pretty nice little one, being a bell-only crossing and one of the last two on the Mendota Sub. It appears that there was originally a WRRS install here from the CB&Q, but, in the 2000s, the mast here was replaced with the current one by BNSF. Strangely, BNSF chose to reuse the WRRS bell this crossing originally had onto the newer mast, but, sometime between 2010 and 2015 or so, the WRRS bell here was replaced with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. Since then, no major changes appear to have occurred to this crossing, thankfully.
