Signal on the far left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a Safetran-branded Siemens gate mechanism, NEG LED gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.
Signal on the near left: 1 pair of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran-branded Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
On November 21st, I went out to see about shooting some more trains and crossings on the NS AGS North District. I was originally gonna see about shooting the crossings around Wauhatchie, but NS had them closed while working on the grades at them. As such, I hopped onto I-59 to head down towards Alabama when I heard the NS dispatcher talking to what sounded like a northbound down towards Valley Head. As such, I hopped back off the Interstate and made my way over towards this crossing, since I kinda wanted to get it filmed. While waiting for that northbound, a couple of signal maintainers pulled-up to do the monthly check of the crossing, so I was able to get a couple of videos of the signals here being tested.
In the second clip, you can hear the distant horn of the approaching train as it heads through crossings to my south, I think in Trenton. I will say, I do always love hearing distant train horns as they slowly grow louder on cold mornings like this, just such a nice ambiance.
After testing the signals twice, the signal maintainers got back in their truck and left, while I stuck around waiting for the approaching northbound train. Just about two minutes later, I was able to get my first train of the day: NS 108 flying through with a trio of elephant-style AC44C6Ms for power.
This crossing is a pretty decent one, featuring a fairly modern NS install at it. I believe these signals were installed in about 2017 to replace a pair of crossbucks that were here, and basically haven't changed since. At some point, two of the gate lights on the far signal were replaced, buth nothing else too major here appears to have changed since this trio of signals were installed. The road curves up a hill behind me, so an extra off-side mast signal was installed here to provide better visibility for approaching cars. Always do love filming auxiliary signals like this, which is why I decided to head for this crossing over the older ones nearby in New England and Trenton.
