Need help on a Safetran bell I received

Hello group,
I am glad to be a part of this group and hope I can add to the discussions.
I recently acquired a Safetran bell and must say I am happy with it. Only issue I have is that the first time I hooked it up it ran fine off my 12 volt DC train transformer. But I tried to run it a second time and nothing, I made sure my connections were correct and even changed them on my transformer thinking they might be backwards since my transformer doesn't have a "+" or +-+ on it. I'm miffed at what could have happened and any input from you all would be much appreciated. If you need pics I can provide them. Please bear with me because this topic may be under the wrong forum and if it is, let me know.
