*originally recorded on 1-24-25*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.

After catching 73Z in Whiteside, TN, I hopped back on down to the NS AGS North District, heading for this crossing in New England, GA. After a little bit of waiting here, I was able to get my sixth train of the day at this crossing: NS 355 flying through New England with a pair of AC44C6Ms for power.

This crossing is a pretty nice little one, featuring what are undoubtedly the oldest signals left along the NS AGS North District in Georgia. It appears the signals here were originally installed by the late-SOU in the late-70s or early-80s. In the mid-90s, however, NS replaced both of the original gate mechanisms here with the current Safetran ones. The crossing doesn't seem to have seen too much in the way of upgrades for another decade after that, but, sometime between 2007 and 2014, NS replaced the original bell here with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. Then, sometime between 2014 and 2018, the original Safetran 8 inch lights here were replaced by the current Safetran 12x20s. Sadly, I believe this was the last 8 inch crossing on the NS AGS North District before that upgrade.
Thankfully, since then, nothing too major has changed here aside from both gate arms being replaced and all of the gate lights being upgraded to NEG LEDs within the past few years. I'm glad to see the old SOU-era masts are still here, even if the signals have been pretty decently modernized over the years. Hopefully they remain here for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I was able to film this crossing when I did.
