Igou Ferry Road, Soddy-Daisy, TN
*originally recorded on 2-22-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
After I caught 167, I went on down to this crossing, while I thought I heard them meeting a train at CP Daisy to my south. When I pulled-up here, I heard the northbound blowing its horn for a crossing to my south, so I quickly got set-up. Soon, I was able to catch my seventh train of the day: NS 55G with an AC44C6M leading NS 1073 (the Penn Central heritage unit, an SD70ACe) for power! Definitely nice being able to get another, completely unexpected, heritage unit on this day.
This crossing is another pretty nice one, featuring another pair of gateless signals at it. It appears these signals were installed by the late-Southern Railway in the early-80s, though in the 2000s, NS replaced the bell here with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. The crossing remained unchanged for another decade or so after that, but then, sometime between 2013 and 2019, the 8 inch lights here were all replaced by the current Safetran 12x20s. Thankfully, since then, no further changes appear to have occurred to this crossing, and I'm glad to see it still retains its original SOU-era signals at it. I'm also glad to see that the cantilever here, which I believe is the only gateless one on the CNO&TP South, also still has its original overhead lights as well, which are nice to see.
