Leggett Road, Sale Creek, TN
*originally recorded on 2-22-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
After catching 189 at Detour Road, I saw there was a second southbound lined through Sale Creek, so I decided to hop down to this crossing to catch it. After a bit of waiting, I was able to catch my ninth train of the day: NS 143 with a lone AC44C6M pulling on the head-end and an ES44AC and another AC44C6M working as the mid-train DPUs.
This crossing is another decent one, featuring a fairly modern NS install at it as well. It appears that originally, there were a pair of older gated signals here installed by the Southern Railway back in the 1970s. They remained largely untouched for a while, but, sometime between 2009 and 2012, NS replaced the original Safetran mechanical bell here with a GS Type 2 e-bell. Then, sometime between 2012 and 2014, the old searchlight signals at CP North Sale Creek around this crossing were replaced, and NS replaced the signals here as well at the same time. Thankfully, since then, nothing else too major seems to have changed at this crossing. I will admit, I'm not entirely sure why the closer signal here is so tall, but it did make for a slightly more interesting crossing than it would've otherwise.
