*originally recorded on 2-22-25*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell.

After I caught 29F, I hung around this crossing and waited for 55G to come through, While I was waiting, another railfan pulled-up and got set-up, though he was younger and more energetic than I am and occasionally ran-up to the tracks while waiting to see if he could see anything. Unfortunately, while doing that, someone saw him and decided to call us into NS, so 55G wound-up having to stop right next to the crossing for a few minutes, as the sheriff wound-up getting here right as the train did. The sheriff chatted with the other railfan, presumably about staying safe, and the train crew gave him a vest which was nice, apparently they'd recognized him. All in all, nothing too bad happened beyond the delay here (and an extra-long recording on my end), thankfully. Eventually, NS 55G did get going again, and I was able to catch the one more time accelerating through this crossing on their way north right as the sun was setting. After the train passes, you can once again hear the defect detector just north of this crossing reading-out for it.

This crossing is a pretty nice one, and I'm glad I was able to record it. The signals here appear to have been a late-70s/early-80s SOU install, and were still entirely original up into at least 2008. Sometime between 2008 and 2020, however, the original 8 inch lights here were replaced with the current Safetran 12x20s and the original Safetran mechanical bell was replaced by the current reused GS Type 1 e-bell. Definitely a bit strange that NS chose to reuse a GS Type 1 here, but I certainly ain't gonna complain. I may see about coming back here at some point for a better, and certainly shorter, video of this crossing, but for now, enjoy this nice long recording of a GS Type 1 e-bell sounding, lol. At the very least, I'm glad I was able to film this crossing as well, especially since it's still gateless with GS Type 1 e-bell at it.
