Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After I got the Winkomatics and Alusigs in Anniston, I decided to hop on I-20 to see if I could beat that 26A I heard roll through roughly 40 minutes prior to this crossing. I'm not sure if it says something about the line speeds on the NS East End District that, in addition to the 40 minute head-start I gave 26A, I was able to spend close to an hour driving on I-20 to this crossing and I *still* beat 26A here with quite a bit of time to spare. Thankfully, either way, I was able to catch my fourth train of the day here: NS 26A with an NS SD70ACe leading a CP ES44AC for power! Definitely a bit neat to see some more Canadian Pacific power again, even if it was just trailing.
This crossing is another neat one, featuring another pair of unnecessarily tall mast signals at it. Originally, there was a pair of much shorter gated mast signals here installed here by the Southern Railway back in the mid-70s or so, it appears, though in the early-90s NS had upgraded the lights here to Safetran 12x24s. Then, sometime between 2008 and 2012, the original Safetran mechanical bell here was replaced with a new Safetran Type 3 e-bell. Next, sometime between 2013 and 2014, NS replaced both signals here entirely, though they reused the Safetran Type 3 e-bell here onto the current ones, which were originally incandescent. Then, between 2015 and 2016, the signals here were upgraded to LED alongside most of the rest of the crossings on the NS East End District in Georgia. Finally, sometime between 2023 and 2024, the Safetran Type 3 here died and was replaced by the current GS Type 3 e-bell.
Thankfully, since then, nothing else seems to have changed to this crossing. Not sure why NS chose to install such tall masts here either, as like with Jones Street the gate arms here definitely ain't nearly long enough to warrant the height of these masts. Still, I will admit, I do enjoy shooting the extra tall signals, so I don't entirely mind it.
