Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate light.
After catching 73Z, vtgrxrman and I hopped on back east a crossing over to this one, since I wanted to try and get it and I knew a 101 shouldn't be too far behind. After a little bit of waiting, we were able to catch our fourth train of the day: NS 101 with a UP SD70ACe leading a UP AC44CW for power.
After this, we continued back east over to Rogers Springs, TN, passing another westbound train (I believe NS 17A) on our way. Unfortunately, nothing else came before sunset, so this wound-up being our last train of the day before we returned back home for the evening. Certainly not a bad train to end the day off with, however.
This crossing is a rather neat one, and I'm glad I was finally able to get it recorded as well. The signals here were installed by NS back in the early to mid-90s, though are slightly older than the ones we'd recorded earlier over in Germantown it appears, due to the fact that these have 12x24s on them rather than 12x20s. In the late-90s or early-2000s, it appears, NS replaced the bell here with a GS e-bell. Then, sometime between 2012 and 2016, NS replaced the bell here once again with another GS e-bell. The crossing remained largely unchanged until sometime after 2023, when the bell here was replaced a *third* time by NS with yet *another* GS e-bell, this time being the current GS Type 3 e-bell. This crossing has certainly gone through the bells!
Thankfully, despite all of these bell replacements, this crossing still has the bell here set to ring when the gates rise, which is nice to see. Both signals here also completely lack front lights, which certainly looks a bit unusual, due to the fact that it basically serves as a short connector road between the two parallel streets on either side of the NS Memphis District West End here. I will admit, I do always enjoy recording installs like this, as they certainly have a bit of an unusual look to them! Definitely another great little crossing, and I hope it's able to remain unchanged for another good few years this time.
