*originally recorded on 5-21-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After catching the southbound grain train, vtgrxrman and I hopped on over to this crossing as well to see about trying to get it recorded. After a little bit of waiting, we were able to get our sixth, final, and best catch of the day: a southbound phosphate(?) train with an SD75I leading an SD70M-2 for power! I'm definitely glad I was finally able to get an SD75I leading again, the last time I was able to catch one leading was in the middle of the night on NS 362 back in 2017!
After this, Harris and I decided to head on home for the evening as we weren't certain if anything else was likely to be coming through before sunset, and we had a nearly 4 hour drive back home to Huntsville to do still.
This crossing is yet another great one, featuring yet another late-70s ICG install at it that's still fairly original. Sometime between 2009 and 2012, it appears, CN upgraded the lights here to LED. Then, sometime between 2014 and when EthantheRailfanner visited here in 2020, the original Safetran mechanical bell here was (sadly) replaced by the current Safetran Type 3 e-bell. Thankfully, since then, no other major changes appear to have occurred to this crossing, and it still features its classic Safetran 8 inch light heads and original late-70s Safetran gate mechs! Hopefully the old signals remain untouched for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I was able to record it when I did.
