*originally recorded on 6-26-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a WCH gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
On the morning of June 26th, my friend and I got on up and got out to see about recording some more crossings on the CSX Sanford Subdivision for our final day in Florida as we headed-up to Cordele, GA, for the night. This was the first crossing we went to, where, after a good while of waiting, we were able to catch our first train of the day: Amtrak 97 with a P40DC leading a P42DC for power! Definitely great to be able to get another P40DC leading!
This crossing is another great one, located on a nice, quiet dirt road a bit southwest of Crescent City and featuring another late-70s SCL install at it. In the 1980s/early-90s, it appears, CSX replaced all of the lights here with the current MI 12x24s. Then, sometime in the mid-2010s or so (based on the condition of it), CSX replaced the bell on the far signal with the current NEG e-bell. Thankfully, since then, this crossing has remained entirely unchanged, which is nice to see.
The original WCH mechanical bell on the closer signal is thankfully still here and still sounds nice and healthy, which is always good to see. The side lights on the closer signal have also had their backgrounds trimmed a bit to make them fit, interestingly enough. Hopefully this crossing continues to remain unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm quite glad I got to record it when I did.
