*originally recorded on 6-27-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation Series LEDs, a dead Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching I025 just north of Oglethorpe, we continued northwest to the unincorporated community of Mauk to get a couple of crossings there recorded. On our way up to this crossing, we wound-up getting back ahead of M605. As such, after a bit of waiting here, we were able to catch CSX M605 for the second time on this day.
This crossing is another great one, featuring a late-70s SCL install at it that's thankfully still mostly original! In fact, the only major change here occurred sometime in the early-2010s (most likely between 2012 and 2014, certainly prior to 2014), when CSX replaced the original Safetran 8 inch lights here with the current LED WCH 12x24s when upgrading this line to LED. Thankfully, since then, nothing else appears to have changed to this crossing, and it even still retains both of its original Safetran mechanical bells! Unfortunately, the bell on the far side of the crossing is dead, but, thankfully, the closer signal's bell is still here and still sounds nice and healthy! Hopefully this bell remains here for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm quite glad I got to record this crossing when I did.
