*originally recorded on 9-17-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and a RECO gate light.
After catching Z195 at Glen Rogers Street, I decided to hop over to this neighboring crossing to see about recording it in action as well. After over an hour of waiting, I was finally able to catch my fifth train of the day here: a southbound loaded CN coal train with a lone ET44AC pulling on the head-end and another ET44AC working as the train's DPU, with both of these locomotives being painted in CN's 100th Anniversary paint scheme! The crew aboard was also friendly, which was nice to see. Definitely a pretty nice catch, if I do say so myself.
This crossing is another sweet one, and I'm glad I was able to record it on this trip. It appears that these signals were installed by the IC in the early-90s, and have remained largely unchanged since, amazingly enough. In the early-2000s, it appears, CN replaced the bell here with a GS e-bell, it appears. Then, in sometime between 2017 and 2019, CN replaced the bell here again, this time with the current Safetran Type 3 e-bell. Thankfully, since then, absolutely nothing else has changed to this crossing, which is great to see!
This crossing features some increasingly rare-for-CN incandescent lights on it, which is pretty cool to see, IMHO. In fact, this is one of the last two crossing with incandescent lights like this on the CN Fulton Sub, as I believe all of the others along this line, outside of one near Dyersburg, are now LED. As a result, the backgrounds on the lights here are also still rather nicely faded. Even better, the closer signal even still retains an older RECO incandescent gate light on the tip of it, which is great to see as well! Hopefully CN leaves these signals alone for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I was able to get at least one CN-owned crossing with incandescent lights recorded.
