After catching I128, vtgrxrman and I hopped down to this crossing just south of Mortons Gap to wait for the next train. After a bit of waiting, we were able to catch our third train of the day: CSX I026 with a trio of CM44ACs for power.
This crossing is another pretty nice one, featuring one of a number of old gateless, bell-less installs along the Henderson Sub. It appears that the signals here were originally installed by the L&N decades ago. However, in the late-90s/early-2000s, the far signal was replaced entirely by CSX while the closer signal had its lights replaced with the current Safetran 12x24s, though they were all incandescent. At some point, possibly back in the 80s, the closer signal also had its base replaced with a WCH one. Either way, the crossing remained largely unchanged until sometime between 2014 and when EthantheRailfanner documented this crossing in 2020, when CSX upgraded to these signals to LED. Finally, sometime after 2023, CSX replaced the base of the closer signal with a reused MI one. Thankfully, since then, nothing else has changed to these signals, which is nice to see. Definitely nice to get another bell-less crossing filmed, even if it's been pretty well modernized.
