Bell Deadening Road, Yarbrough, MS
*originally recorded on 11-19-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Safetran Fading LEDs, a sick Safetran Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After catching the southbound mixed freight, the rail train got going south with a Herzog hi-rail truck attached to the rear of it to lay-out rail. As it was getting late in the day, I asked if they had much longer to work, and thankfully there was a southbound they had to finish-up and get out of the way soon for, so I went back up to this crossing and waiting. At about sunset, they finally finished-up their work for the day, and the Herzog hi-rail truck came back north to Lambert to park for the night. Here we get to see it rolling through this crossing in Yarbrough just after sunset, thankfully activating the signals at this crossing as they pass. After this, I hit the road and made the six hour drive to Effingham, IL, for the night.
This crossing is another great one, and I'm glad I managed to get this crossing recorded on this day. The signals here were installed by the Illinois Central back in the early-2000s, and are basically still entirely original. Thankfully, the original Safetran Type 1 e-bell is still here, and with this video I was able to record all three Type 1s on the Yazoo Sub on this day! Unfortunately, the Type 1 here is definitely sounding rather sick and tired, as I noticed it was quite quiet and scratchy when it was sounding.
After the truck passed, the crossing did a tail-ring malfunction, presumably due to how slow the truck was moving in the northern approach circuit. It appears that the rail train that was here earlier had caused the same thing to happen, but since it was sitting just north of the crossing, the crossing wasn't able to deactivate. Either way, I'm glad I was able to record this crossing when I did.
