This is a defunct crossing - the only signalized one on this branch line which has been out of service since 1998. For some reason, no EXEMPT signs were ever put on the signals (although they are on the advance warning signs, and below the crossbucks at all the passive crossings along the line). TRACKS OUT OF SERVICE signs would almost be more appropriate here, since the line is cut north of here by a bridge being out, and red-boarded to the south beyond a short section that is sometimes used for car storage.
These gateless, 12" x 20" Safetran incandescent signals stand sentinel at a crossing that will likely never see a train again. The recreational trail lobby has its sights set on this line, and the last potential rail customer recently relocated to another town.
