this type of light setup is usually found where seeing the usual lights oon the signal are obsolete such as coming over hills. In order to let drivers know a train is coming, they add the extra high mounted lights.

There are sharp curves on either side of this crossing, so they mounted "side lights" that could be seen while coming around the curve. Kind of defeated the purpose in the summertime though as corn would be planted in the fields next to the crossing which blocked that view.

I am pretty sure these tracks are abandoned now. At least they looked so when I visited this area last April.

It does not look used to me. If you look at where the road crews striped over the crossing, you can see paint is still on the rails. As any train traffic would quickly rub this paint right off, it is probably out of service.

the wood and rubber combined grade looks tacky. The tracks appear to look fine and dont have any weeds or trees growing in it. Hard to see any shininess on the top of the rails though.
