This crossing is on a short spur line that goes to the North Lake power plant, a gas/oil-fired generating facility. This power plant was shut down and mothballed for many years due to it's relative inefficiency and high operating costs. However, in 2007 TXU brought this plant back online to meet peak demand loads. I'm not sure if it is currently in operation or not. Another interesting thing is that there is a big fight going on between the cities of Coppell, Irving and Dallas over the land where this power plant is located. The property itself was annexed as part of Dallas, but it is completely surrounded on all sides by Coppell and Irving. A developer wants to build thousands of apartments here, and Coppell and Irving are very much against it saying it will strain their fire, police and the school district. Well, whether or not the power plant is being used and whatever the land eventually gets used for, one thing that is CERTAINLY not in use is this railroad track!

Overall view looking east.

The eastbound crossbuck. Both crossbucks have
"Exempt" signs, which are fairly rare in north Texas.

Track view looking north, back towards the
main line. It's a jungle out there!

Track views looking south towards the power
plant. There is a locked gate across the track. I think the tree
growing in the middle of the RoW is a sure sign that this track is
defunct.
