These lights are 8 inch, and kind of remind me of another crossing. |
Here's the rear of the signal. |

Take a look at the tops of both the relay box on picture #3, and the top of the signal in picture #4. I don't know why that is like this, but who knows? Note a few things in picture #4, note the downed stop sign. Also note the crossbuck. A small part of the R in Railroad is missing as well as the G in crossing. The crossbuck looks like it says Railroad Crossin'.
This crossing reminds me of the older Watson Rd. crossing in California, except with gates. |

The crossing is still here as of December 26, 2008. However, I'm told that the construction has caught up to here, so these signals are on VERY borrowed time. |
Picture 8 was taken by Brian556 on October 8, 2008.
After holding out for a very long time, the classic signals have finally fallen victim to the DART Green Line construction.
They have been replaced by 2 gateless signals on temporary bases:
Overall view facing northeast.
The NE-bound signal.
Safetran mechanical bell and fading LEDs.
A temporary signal base.
Overall view facing southwest.
The front and back side of the SW-bound
signal.
Track view facing southeast (towards the
Mockingbird Ln. crossing).
Track view facing northwest.
The equipment bungalow... and a porta-potty!

side of the street.

Here are some action shots of the new, permanent signals with gates. Also a traffic light has been installed at the corner of Denton & Hawes. Now that the DART Green Line is operational, this crossing is scheduled to have 140 trains per day on weekdays and 108 trains per day on weekends, plus the occasional DGNO freight train as well.
