This cantilever signal is a weird structure. The lights aren't in the right place. Instead of using a short cantilever, they used a long one and placed the lights in the middle instead of at the end. At the end there is hole where the wiring would go if lights were there. In addition, the front lights have 24" backgrounds while the rear-facing lights have 20" backgrounds. There's also a missing visor on the right cantilever light in photo #2.
In photo #1, you can see a mast signal protecting the other direction of this crossing, as well as another mast signal protecting a road to the left (it's almost hidden behind the road sign). The tracks cross through the middle of the intersection of Morgan St. & Scullin Ave. |

On a return trip 9 years later, these signals were caught malfunctioning:

The westbound signal. Both of the Morgan
signals have 12"x24" Safetran incandescent lights, and decorative
pinnacles on top.

the oddly-placed lights. The mechanical bell on the cantilever signal
is the only bell at this crossing.

The lone bell at this crossing is fairly loud and has a very clear, pleasant tone. It does ring somewhat slowly, slightly faster than once per second.
Even though the crossing was malfunctioning and there was no train, motorists were not just blowing through it... every vehicle was stopping and looking cautiously in both directions before proceeding.
