This crossing has two Safetran cantilevers with 12" x 24" incandescent lights. There is one Safetran mechanical bell on top of the northbound cantilever. There is also a side track guarded by crossbucks that is counted by the FRA as part of the same crossing, seen in the background of picture 2. More on that later...
Track view east. Catlin St. can be seen in the distance. |
Check out the crossbuck/EXEMPT sign placement for the side track! The southbound ones are on a power line pole with the EXEMPT sign above the crossbuck, and the northbound ones are mounted to a T-beam attached to the side of a building! The relay case. | ||
The side track is active, although I'm not sure how often. I usually see boxcars parked on it either side of the crossing.
Pictures 1-7 were taken on August 8, 2007.
Pictures 8-12 show the crossing in action from the north (southbound) side for the WSOR inspection special on May 18, 2007.
Pictures 13-14 again show the north side of the crossing in action on July 26, 2007. Picture 14 features a rarity for the WSOR...a CSX locomotive!
Pictures 15-22, along with the audio file, were again taken on August 8, 2007. They show the crossing in action again, this time from the south side. Yeah, it took me three times getting the crossing in action before I got a usable audio recording. The train moved extremely slowly, and came to a complete stop three times. The crossing was blocked for over ten minutes.
