A wide view looking West.

Facing North.
Facing South.
The relay case, which is inactive.

Yes, there's only one signal here! For a moment, I thought this was a one way street, due to the double stop signs, but upon seeing the double yellow line, I knew it was a 2 way street. There was another signal with 3 pairs of 12"x24" lights, but it was either stolen, or possibly ran over, and never replaced. You can see where the old signal stood in picture 3 from the orange cone.

The front of the signal.
The rear of the signal.
Yes, the left frame has no background, visor or red lens.
A side view of the remains of the lights.

All that's left is the light bulb, wires, and a reflector (probably to make the whole area light up. I didn't know that until now)!

All 4 lights are from WCH. The mechanical bell seen in picture 8 is also from WCH.

Pictures 1-9 were taken on November 25, 2006.

As of August 28, 2007 nothing's changed at the crossing. Trains are still not using the line, and grass has overgrown the track. The lone signal is still missing a visor, lens and background on the left rear light.

Picture 10 faces North. Picture 11 faces South.

How do I know what was on the other signal? How do I know that the relay case is inactive?

I was also forwarded this link: http://www.weedengraphics.com/fitchburg_rail_inspection/Section_3.pdf

The last page (page 16) shows what the crossing used to look like. There are also remains of other crossings scattered amongst the other 15 pages.

What's weird is that the FRA demands that inactive crossings such as this to have any signals (or crossbucks if passive) replaced, even if the line is dead?! Check page 2 for details.
