Looking east on Dousman Street.

Looking east closer to the intersection/crossing.
Facing south on Fisk Street.

This weird setup cuts diagonally through a 4-way intersection. What's even more remarkable is that this crossing is still here even though the line has been defunct since 1999, and all connecting tracks have been removed! This was originally part of the Milwaukee Road's north-south mainline through Wisconsin, which went to Soo Line, then Wisconsin Central in the mid-late 1980s. Wisconsin Central had other lines that enabled them to bypass this section, so the old Milwaukee Road through downtown Green Bay was abandoned and torn up in 1999, with the mysterious exception of this crossing.

Each of the four approaches to the crossing has a crossbuck. The two crossbucks on Fisk Street are the old, rare 45-degree style! All crossbucks but the northbound one on Fisk St. have a TRACKS OUT OF SERVICE sign mounted below them. According to the FRA history, for most of the period when this crossing was active the highway traffic signals at the intersection were used as crossing signals (they would turn red or flash red in all 4 directions when a train came).

Although Canadian National bought Wisconsin Central in 2001, this line was already abandoned and CN never operated it.

This crossing is located west of the active CN crossing on Dousman Street, and north of the one on Fisk Street.

The Fisk St. SB crossbuck.
Looking southeast through the intersection.
Looking west on Dousman.

In pictures 6-7 you can see that the rails in the crossing are the only ones left. The raised right-of-way is still apparent in the grass, before disappearing into the overgrown trees and bushes.

No other crossings remain intact on the defunct section of this line, although some streets still have the patches in the pavement, and the R X R pavement markings and stop lines visible.

The rails are being removed and the roads repaved to eliminate the abandoned crossing, although the crossbucks were still there at the time of the pictures.

Picture 15 and 16 look south on Fisk Street, like pictures 4-5. Picture 17 looks southeast.

Facing northwest. Some kind of pipeline is being laid along the former right-of-way.
Looking north on Fisk Street. Notice the traffic lights at the intersection have also been removed and replaced with STOP signs. New traffic lights are planned for this intersection once construction is complete.
