This bell was first shown on Safetran's site sometime in mid to late 2005 when it replaced the Safetran Mechanical bell, Safetran type 1, and the Safetran Hybrid bells all at the same time, leaving this as the only bell shown on Safetran's site at that point.
This bell initially looks close to General Signals electronic bells, however the base of the bell is what's different between the two bells.
This bell can be found at a few crossings, however it isn't as popular as General Signals and WCH electronic bells mostly due to its high cost.
The term "Type 2" was created my Smjh1979 as a way to distinquish this bell from the other kinds of electronic bells that Safetran has to offer. Safetran does not call this a "type 2", but only an "Electronic Bell."
This bell sounds pretty close in tone to General Signals type 2, but has a better "ring" to it as signalfans say.
The current it draws is less than 150 mAh. Voltage ranges from 9 to 16 volts DC, and outputs sounds between 75 to 85 decibles for the soft tone bell, and 95 to 105 decibles for the loud tone bell. Weight is no more than 10 pounds.
The bell sounds at 250 strokes per minute. The bell is made of PVC pipe, like the General Signals bells.
According to the bell that SafetranType1Ryan has, the tone is not able to be adjusted, however you can change the volume of the bell on the speaker, instead of the circuit board on the WCH and General Signals electronic bells.
The sound output is in monaural by design for unknown reasons. This bell design is now made by
NEG, and Safetran (later Invensys Rail, now Siemens) only sells the
