Waste of a good setup...

Post by Josh »

Question: What has 2 cantilevers + 1 mast, 36 lights, 3 electronic bells and what looks like it could be a light-up "NO RIGHT TURN" sign?

Answer: This completely defunct crossing in Phoenix, AZ...

If they wanted to find a location to recycle all that equipment and put it somewhere where it's needed, this looks like it would be a good candidate: A crossing in Tempe, AZ that appears to get at least some train activity and the tracks cross diagonally through the intersection of two 6-lane roadways. Yet aside from the traffic lights the only warning are some crossbucks mounted on sticks coming out of the side of the traffic lights...

Did anybody notice the crossing just up the street from that first link? Not sure what the heck that contraption is over the road... or if it is used in conjunction with the crossing signals.

That first crossing had tracks, but the railroad still hasn't taken them out yet. There's another mast signal on the side street as well. One was removed, but the other still exists.

I have that on the site BTW.

Looks like some sort of lane control signal for when one of the stadiums lets out; I'm guessing the street can be converted to one-way only and the various boxes display which way each lane is supposed to go at the intersection.

That makes sense. Didn't realize the stadiums were right there when I looked at it the first time.

I'm sure it would never happen, but if a train happened to come along while that street was going in one direction... traffic that is on the far left side of the road would have a hard time seeing that lone signal on the opposite side of the road.

The advance warning sign on the other setup is interesting....
