Mini bell most likely

Re: What kind of bell is this?
wow I forgot about wrrs 1st gen those things are old thats for sure R&N seems to have a few of those on their line but from what I've heard there getting replaced with gs and wch e-bellsKLM92 wrote:Its a 1st generation WRRS 0222. The 1st generation bells have high pitched gongs like that. Those were from when WRRS was a new company, and they used the predecessor companies (Bryant Zinc for the 0222's and Railroad Supply Co. for the 1275 mini bells) castings. I have one of those (0222's) and it has Bryant Zinc castings. GRSA had to use the same gongs on their bells. They sound exactly the same. Check senko's video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqzmpvBElSw
The bell in this first link is a 1st gen WRRS 0222.

US&S 15-A teardrop nope still searching there impossible to find. BUT I LOVE EMKLM92 wrote:Yeah, those are good bells. Their downfall was the fact that the mast adaptor is one piece with the body. If someone hit the signal the base of the bell would break off and you couldn't put another one on. The broken ones that I have seen have had a big chunk of the body broken off the bottom of the bell. WRRS came up with the bolt on mast adaptor so it could be replaced if it had not broken the body of the bell. Those are my favorite WRRS bells for their sound. I just picked up an old US&S 15-A from the ERIE and it has a gong that sounds like a 1st gen. WRRS. Did you ever find yourself a spade bell?
I went here a few times, then the last time I went the bell didnt ring at all.
btw how much do your teardrops weigh.

The bell in the first post sounds like a slow Safetran type 3 high pitch.

THANKSKLM92 wrote:Im going to be doing some work with someone who has a pile of spade bells at their yard that have been removed. I will be working with them a few months from now. No promises, but If they are still there I will try to snag you a couple so you can make a good one. Thats how a lot of the restoration projects I work on go. For example, with a set of US&S HC-81's, depending on condition, It will take two complete bad or broken sets to make one good. If there is a nice one that works I will try to get you that.
With a mast adaptor one weighs about 75 lbs.
I would love to have one
75 pounds is about the weight of the punching bag that just came into day so I'd be able to lift it no problem

my answer Hell no and I'm going on strikeKLM92 wrote:They aren't hard to move around at all. Have fun lifting one up to the top of a 13' mast in one piece though![]()
75 lbs. is nothing compared to some of that cast iron stuff I have worked on. What was tough to move was that 400 lb WRRS gate mech that I wrestled into the barn by myself.

400 pounds how on earth did you manage that

HAHAKLM92 wrote:I was able to move it off the trailer with an engine lift, but I could only take the engine lift into the barn so far because of height restrictions. I had to wrestle it 25' from where I set it down to where it sits now.
On top of the mech itself, there is a 160 lb, a 100 lb, and a 50 lb counterweight plus the counterweight support arms which are all cast iron.
I got a replacement for you wch model 3597, it even has EGM (Electric Gate Monitor)System

Re: What kind of bell is this?
LOL yah I've seen my share of both gate mechs fail, but i still like wch the best one of the last american signal company leftKLM92 wrote:Hahah. No thanks. I think I will stick with the one that is actually built well and won't fall apart on me. Those POS new WCH mechs are only dumpster worthy. I think what they do is get a nice cast aluminum housing, take a $hit inside, and send it off to the customer.
NS has some of the older WCH mechs around here and my maintainer friends don't complain about them too much. They had a decent group of newer ones from late Conrail days that met the dumpster. They aren't installing anything new from WCH, and they are steadily replacing the WCH mechs they have in use. They are doing like CSX, all Safetran S-60's.

Re: What kind of bell is this?
I can tell you the one in my video still exists and is working great still. CSX has actually replaced WCH m bells rather than this one which is nice.
