Fatal accident in Auburn, IL

Happened at Cherry Grove School Ln. about 4:30pm today. It happened with a UP freight train. Since an Amtrak come through their at about 4:30 and CGS Ln. is at the beginning of a passing siding, i assume the freight was ether pulling off to let the Amtrak pass, or the AMtrak already passed and it was pulling on the mainline. The crossing has no signals, just signs, but it is right by a park and the park has signs posted that say stuff like "caution: fast trains"

here are two pictures of a freight on the siding i took in July, there is some vegetation near the crossing which is some obstruction, but still lame to get hit considering the speed limit on the siding is only 30.

Apparently it could be any crossing now, one site says it was Narmont Rd. (not on the site) and another says it was at Hambuch Rd. and all signals were functioning properly

The newspaper article has been updated with some pics that show the active signals in the background and they have now also released the name of the victim:

Channel 20 (the local TV station) also had this on their morning news with a rather detailed story, including a shot of the crossing signals in the video and you could hear the WCH e-bells in the background. But they don't have a copy of that story on their web site that I can find. Just some small blurb about the victim's name being released and about 15 seconds of video from the original story.

I was listening to 970 WMAY out of Springfield online and the news lady interrupted the show to mention a fatal train accident in Auburn.

The train was on the main.

If you take a closer look at the picture of the train on the newspaper website, that set of tracks has now been updated with concrete ties and new rail for the high speed train project. They just completed that project south of Springfield last fall.

I noticed that when i saw those pictures and it surprised me that it was on the main, due to the Amtrak which usually come through at 4:30, i thought for sure it happened on the siding.

the way the picture looks thou the railview camera might have been blocked by the bent windshield wiper, lets hope not.
I cant wait till trains go 90 along that section I wounder what a car would look like after it got struck then
