reco stay on a gate 'bout as well as a redneck self controls himself at a buffet
ok ok in all seriousness use the auto taillight bulbs as said above

The old SP used GE 10v 25 watt bulbs for everything except the semiphore
signals, those needed 8 volt bulbs that had two connections on the bottom
instead of one for better conductivity...

The bulb shown there ain't right, filament should be cross-wise and the glass
much bigger, both.

I burned the ribbon out of a DNL-4 light relay with my first "signal light out call"
as the Mesa Maintainer because no one bothered to tell me they were different
than all the rest of the signal bulbs.

Found several 8v bulbs in the searchlight signals on the Bowie Maintainer's
District when I took it over. The old guy I got the district from put those 8v
bulbs in there for overtime. Yeah, there was a lot of that sort of crap going
on. :/ The crummier of a maintainer you were the more money you made.

----------------------------

On my company trucks with a utility bed, I'd swap out the backup light bulbs
with 10v signal bulbs, they'd light things up like they meant business. LOL :)

Did a lot of backing up at night too.
A lot. :)

All depends on the type of light, and what you're using it for. Obviously if it's an LED light with a board in it (Think RECO LED) then a regular bulb won't work, you'll need the LED board replacement.

If you are just horsing around with it, then an auto bulb will be ok, but if you want it to fully light up the lense accurately, or use it for Railroad applications, you will need to use an actual S11 bulb. NS standards are 18 watts for crossings, and 25 watts for wayside signals, FYI, and that is plenty, and doesn't drain the batteries so fast on a power off scenario.

Govern yourself accordingly, over.
Just the facts, ma'am.
