Two crossings in Carson, CA defunct

I was told a few days ago (September 23, 2010) that the spur line that has at least 5 crossings in the Carson, CA area has gone defunct.

Carson St. #3, and 220th St. are the ones affected on the site, There are another 3 crossings I didn't get to. Dominguez St. #3 was just crossbucks only, and was not interesting to get.
Delamo Blvd. #3 had 4 gated signals, but was too hard for me to get pictures and video. The other was South Reeves Ave. which is a gateless cantilever crossing I never even knew existed until Street View went down there.

If I may go back to the 1980s and go down memory lane for a while, Carson St. #3 at the time used to be right next to a lumber yard called "National Lumber". My grandfather, being a woodworker went there all the time, as it was only about 2 miles from where he lived. I used to go with him (keep in mind I was around 5-6 years old at the time), and I don't remember ever seeing a train on that spur line.

It's a shame that spur line didn't get good usage. Carson #3 at the time had some good 8" signals, and 220th St. had some 12"x20" gated signals.

As a result, Carson St. #3 and 220th St. have been marked defunct leaving only 7 active crossings out of 17 crossings I have on the site.

I've known these crossings since I was a kid myself, and I do remember the National Lumber that was there too.

the Del Amo crossing connected to this spurt is still active though for how long I dont know (I have seen it active recently)

the one on Dominguez I haven't seen in along time (last time I did was when the old Pic N Save was still on Del Almo Blvd before it became Big Lots and then a factory when the Alameda Corridor came along) but it was only wooden crossbucks and nothing more.

the Carson #3 I've seen active a few times in my childhood and recenty before it was closed, sad too now a days that area is paved over and the tracks on either side are all that's left (though recently I noticed a bulldozer in the area where the tracks are at, guess this means that section going toward 220th is about to be ripped out completely)

I remember Pick N Save as well, right next to the 12"x20" part of the old Del Amo #1 crossing. I've always wanted to get video of that crossing from that Pick N Save parking lot, but it never happened.

Google Street View has done a lot of HD upgrades in California about a month ago, and it really does show 220th and Carson #3 as 100% defunct. There are no more signals at either crossing. I also checked the Dominguez crossbuck-only crossing, and it's still there. Too bad some signals didn't get recycled there, but since that spur is used so little, it's 99.9% likely that they would just go to waste.

yeah I remember looking at the old Del Amo #1 crossing from the emergency exit door at pic n save, especially when there was a train approaching the crossing (not hard to miss it either since you could hear the train horns even inside the store.)

I also remember the malfunction mentioned on the Del amo #1 page where the gates would go up and down, I actually saw that malfunction too
