Another Traffic Light Crossing

Post by SirKrunch »

(Finally figured out what I had to edit to get this embedding BS to work.)

And the Streetview.
See, it's even labeled a "Railroad Crossing Signal". Heh.

Probably would be better if they didn't have an "EXEMPT" sign under the only crossbucks.

I disagree. Since the crossing runs through the middle of an intersection, and is controlled by the traffic lights, the exempt signs makes sense. It would be a mess if school bus's, etc had to stop and open their doors as they normally do.

That is if the stop in the first place, working out at these crossings out of 400 buses, I have only seen about 3 actually open their doors.
Some have ran the crossing at 50+ MPH.

I speak my mind, if you don't like that oh well. I'll have you fill out a hurt feelings report and submit that to my office.

Well OK... if the drivers were doing their jobs correctly, yes. I know that doesn't always happen, but rest assured, I do.

Considering the train can't cross without stopping and waiting to receive the green light, and traffic has a 4-way red... Exempt works just fine here. And honestly, if they started having some problems with visibility, they could also supplement the lights by flagging the crossing also.

Example @ 3:17 ish...

Flagging crossings is a huge pain in the ass, and sometimes is not in the best interest of the Railroad. For instance, if the "Flagger" is on the train, you have to stop the train, he has to walk to the crossing, then flag it, start the train back up, proceed, pick him up, etc. ...If you have a heavy load or wet rails, you will have great trouble starting back up. Not to mention the excessive amount of time all this costs the train crews.

It is not up to the railroads to put up crossing warning devices, thats the governments job. If there are accidents there, then the govt. should research how to make it safer, the railroad isn't responsible past crossbucks and blowing the horn and cutting the ROW for visibility, they shouldn't be burdoned with supplying manpower and delaying trains while flagging crossings while moving with the locomotive in the front.

Also, the issue arises where, if you flag a crossing one day, and not the other, and someone gets hit, they will try to say "Well I would have stopped and looked around, but there was a guy out there with a flag the other day, but this time he wasn't there...."
Just the facts, ma'am.
