Hmmm.... I do believe the Google car drove around the gate to go down that side road: http://goo.gl/maps/7CdDG

Also, if you click on the little picture link at the top of the StreetView page, it looks like there is a picture of that crossing from awhile back with older non-gated signals. http://goo.gl/maps/FlvSc

Yeah, well, once I get a chance to, I'll take a few photos of this (20+) and might have it uploaded onto here someday

Cabby theirs a side road there that the car came off of.

I think the car was going TOWARDS the road because if you scroll through the frames there was a red truck with a trailer behind him which he left sitting at the crossing gate.

It's a tough call on that one... with the position of the gate you would have to go around it if you wanted to go down the side road.

So this brings up another question. Why is the gate not positioned in line with the tracks? You see that on some crossings that are angled, and on others it is positioned like the one on this crossing. Is there a guideline on that or it is just up to the installer / maintainer?

Yeah, I think that's what people would so if there's a side road right beside the tracks is to turn onto the road

Just found that. I'm surprised the signal is still standing!

EDIT:

Even more classic signals,
http://g.co/maps/puwm9
also, if you look closely at the dwarf signal near the bridge, the light is still on though the line is clearly abandoned:
http://g.co/maps/yeb3k
I also found some more signals along that line too. Looks as if it had median signals.

Median signals, not quad gates.
This is a quad setup, http://goo.gl/maps/BCbCW
