Wow... I was within a couple of miles of that crossing on that same day coming down Interstate 94. I can attest that the weather was terrible.

What should have taken me 8 hours to drive from near Iron Mountain Michigan to my home in Springfield IL ended up being a 2 day trip. We made it as far as 60 miles from home (Bloomington/Normal IL) and finally had to stop due to near white out conditions.

On a side note, I ended up putting my car in a ditch at a railroad crossing near Pound WI on US 141. The snow plow had just come through there a few minutes before I got to the crossing. He apparently raised up his plow right before the crossing and left about a 2 foot pile of snow in my lane. I hit that pile of snow and lost control and ended up in this ditch. After a call to the county sheriff, we were towed out by a local tow truck to the tune of $126.00. At least our car did not get any damage, and we were only stuck there for about 45 minutes.
