I like the wording on that sign. May not totally keep them from being sued if someone got hurt, but certainly is more effective I think.

They don't really make a lot of sense. All it takes is for the light to burn out and people will realize the light is always burned out then they just cross without thinking; this is how accidents happen.

Smart people would stop and check every time, but as we all know, there are a lot of Idiots in the world.

Which is exactly why these type of signals makes sense. The railroad is at least providing something (other than a crossbuck) to warn people of the possibility of a train. In this sue-happy world, much less chance of the railroad having to spend a huge chunk of money fighting a court battle.

Sorry to bump this post up... but the signal has made itself onto Railpictures again. And as it always seems to do, it has created quite a bit of discussion again.

Picture was taken over the weekend. Signal still looks in good shape, except for a little more rust and wear on the signage.

It may have been made by WRRS from the logo on the base of the signal. Someone needs to go out there and photograph that signal before it gets replaced.
