Advanced warning signs on the same post as a crossbuck post

I guess they did that because of the post's location right at a T-intersection, but it seems kind of pointless since the purpose of the round sign is advance warning, not to mark the location of the crossing. It would make more sense to have these signs posted on the intersecting road to provide advance warning:

In Wisconsin, these signs are yellow. That orange color is only used for road construction signs.
