Looks like it. Most gate mechanism crossing signals are 5" poles.

Really? I was asking for the width, not the circumference, I wen't to a RR Crossing, and i measured that the width was 3 inches.

I am talking about diameter.
3" is dangerously thin for a gate mechanism.

Ok, now what is the diameter of the (cant remember what its called) the pole that runs through the box and out to the 2 gate arms?

I'm not sure, but I believe it's around three inches. I'll have to go measure one.
