2 Hobbies in One

Post by CSXtrainman13 »

Don't know if this is in the right forum, sorry if it isn't, but as you can see here, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, there is a Griswold Wayside Signal right next to a billboard, an ACA Allertor is the big yellow thing on the pole, maybe you guys don't know what an Allertor is, its actually a Air Raid Siren, but there is a pair of crossing signals next to a branchline or some sort, maybe ran by Norfolk Southern Railway, just wanted to show you guys this, here's the photo:

Sadly the Allertor is long gone. I've been thinking about making a thread dedicated to tornado sirens next to railroad crossings for a while now.
They/Them for me, please.

Aww man, I liked ACA sirens  hopefully they didn't replace it with one of those god-awful FS 2001 sirens.

My personal favorite from ACA was the Hurricane one, the only one I've ever heard go off was a ThunderBolt.
Railfanning since December 28, 2009!

I actually like the 2001s, especially since that's about the only siren I've heard aside from 2001s are a Model 5 and a 16/16 port Sterling M-10. Madison County tests on the 1st Wednesday of the month at noon (weather permitting), right when I'd be out at recess in elementary school. We all got an earful on the playground, but fortunately, Madison County was only tested using a growl then. Apparently, they've started doing attack here as well so I feel sorry for the kids there now.

Also, I'm not sure what Jonesboro got for their new system. All that I know is that the Allertor is no longer standing and there was no direct replacement as far as I can tell.
They/Them for me, please.
