What kind of Wayside signal is this?

What kind of Wayside signal is this?

Ive always seen these type of signals before, but i never knew the name of it, so could someone help me out to identify what kind of signal this is? Its highlighted in yellow. Picture tooken on May 8, 2014, Cheyenne, WY.

Those are "Vader" signals. They are called that because they resemble Darth Vader from Star Wars.

Is there specifically a name for those type of signals? Are they Safetran? Are they something else?

Pretty much all companies as far as I know make them. Safetran makes them along with US&S. If it's on a NS line, it's more than likely Safetran.

Nope, this signal is on a Union Pacific Line.

Uncle Pete has used Safetran up here on their recent installs. Their older vader signals appear to be US&S.

Yes, also the signal in the picture doesn't seem to have LED's, but it has incandescent bulbs.

A lot of their newer signals still use bulbs, and are made by Safetran. I've yet to see a UP wayside signal that has LEDs.

I just found out that this is a Safetran Type D Signal with Snow Hoods, made in the late 80's to early 2000's.
