This might be a little off topic, but check out the old 4-way signals still in service right there

I wonder if they had a special phase for when a train crossed the crossing back when the line was still in service.

They probably still do, seeing as the controller is an electronic one. I wouldn't open it up to look and see if it was still programmed in, though. It's kinda illegal.
I actually found that knocked over crossbuck when I went down the street on streetview to get a better look at the controller for the signals. I have plans to look at those signals next summer when I go down to the Birmingham metro area on a day trip. There are a ton more of those old 4-ways in service in Birmingham as well, but most of them are flashing beacons.
They/Them for me, please.

I believe that there's a video of that crossing somewhere on YouTube.
Also, here's how it looked before: https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=26.7060 ... 7&t=h&z=12
(BTW, I count three mechanical bells on the old crossing.

Anyway, what in tarnation? It's the next entry for a record: RR Crossing that has the most lights. Imagine seeing it in action. (Probably the wrong thread to put this in but...)

(first off there are train signals on the crossing masts, then the gates hang low?)
