White or silver mast?

So I'm occasionally working on restoring an older crossing signal. I've got pretty much all of the components, most of which are (surprise!) WRRS Co. There's a cast iron crossbuck with separate mounting hardware, 3 tracks and Stop on Red Signal signs with glass bead "cat eye" reflectors, and 8 inch lights with glass lenses. I have the mast and base. I also have several mechanical bells to choose from, notably a WRRS and US&S teardrop.

I'm leaning towards painting the mast and hardware white as opposed to silver to represent a pre-World War II look. I believe the base would be painted black and the bell would also be painted black. My question is, would this be accurate? Is anyone here aware of a standard practice across the country or was it likely to change from railroad to railroad or state to state? Here's a couple scans from the book "Railroad Signalling" by Brian Solomon which reflect the basic look I'm going for. Thanks.

Personally, I'd try to recreate the look of the signal from the railroad it once worked for. I realize it's probably a collection from various signals, but if most of it came from say, B&O, then go B&O from what ever era it first represented.
