Not crossing related... but an interesting way to install streetlights. It's like that for at least 1/2 mile or so.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
There used to be a spur that crossed the tracks here at a sharp angle from the looks of things, but it was torn up leaving this extremely deep crossing:

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Those aren't uncommon in rural areas in Michigan, but I don't think I've seen them in the downtown of a rural small town before, they are typically found at intersections. (Examples https://www.google.com/maps/@41.793852, ... 001T000000 https://www.google.com/maps/@41.794056, ... 001T000000) They are also mostly found where there is little or no other light source like traffic signals, other streetlights, buildings ect.cabman701 wrote:Not crossing related... but an interesting way to install streetlights. Makes sense... puts the light right where it is needed. Would be interesting to see how much it blows around when it is windy. Kind of like cable mounted traffic lights?ToledoRailfan wrote:Those aren't uncommon in rural areas in Michigan, but I don't think I've seen them in the downtown of a rural small town before, they are typically found at intersections. Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Span-wire signals are pretty fun to watch on windy days, so it'd likely be about as entertaining. Minus it having any major effects if it gets turned by the wind though.cabman701 wrote:Makes sense... puts the light right where it is needed.
