Railroad Crossing signals from Back to the Future part III

Post by NSrailfan4life »

I have always wondered where the Delorean-Train crash from the movie was filmed. So I looked it up, and I found them on IMDB. They showed all the filming spots, plus the crossing. So I found the crossing through google maps.

(Note)The signals have new installs for bells and lights. The only thing that stayed like in the movie where the odd cantilevers.

Here are the links below.

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=%22South ... 09,,0,2.63

And here in the final link, Is facing eastbound where the crash occurred.

LOL. Another one of those subjects that come up on this forum from time to time. This thread below was from 2009 back before Google updated their StreetView pictures in that area.

And I believe at one time they were on the website, bur for some reason I cannot find them now.

Yeah. I tried looking for them the other day, and I was not able to find them.

A bit odd how the median causes the road to get smaller at the crossing...

Sorry for bumping up this ancient post... but we got to talking about this movie at dinner last night, and I decided to look to see if these signals still exist. Streetview hasn't been updated since 2011, so hard to know if they are still around.

But in my search for them I came across this pretty neat video that shows the signals in action in 2010, thought I would share...

I do love how they replaced a WCH e-bell with a Safetran mechanical bell though

The video was from 2010 and the one side definitely had a mechanical bell then, so it happened sometime between 2008 and 2010. Would sure like to know if this line still sees any use. If it does, it is very minimal I'm sure.

I noticed that in the video, with all the dirt overrunning the tracks. It would be a shame to see a relic of a rail line like that one out of service. :Sneaky:

Well a couple blocks down, the line has its signals completely removed, and no crossbucks. I read a thread on some site quite a while ago, the man said that he is a Oxnard native and stated that sadly the line ceased service in 2011/ early 2012. Honestly he did not show any images representing his claim, so you never know. I will look further into this line by research!
