After catching Q601 in West Point, I decided to try chasing it down to Opelika for one final video. of it. Here we see it rolling through Opelika, and I let it go after this.
Since I was last here in 2015, not much has changed to this 80s SBD install. I'd seen that the Safetran bell here was still around and had heard that it'd been apparently been fixed by CSX since then, and sure enough, it has! However, the bell is obviously sounding noticeably clicky and weak, likely due to an internal piece wearing out, so I've decided to call it a "dying" Safetran mechanical bell, though I doubt it'll be replaced anytime soon. Also, sometime within the past few years, CSX replaced the tip gate light on the far signal with an NEG LED gate light, but no other major changes appear to have occurred here. The GS Type 1 at this crossing is very much still around and sounds rather nice. Nice to see multiple incandescent gate lights here still as well.
