Humble new Sign Owner: Questions

Post by a_gunslinger »

Just got a 4 light crossing light with sign. Built with Safetran and Premier components. See pix.

No idea what I have here  But looking forward to raising it.

Questions, plz be patient:
  • Inspected last in 1993 - approx. age of this model?
  • What type of lights are those?
  • To feed it power I don't know where to wire the power or where to start
  • Visors and light backs are plastic and in ok shape, few screw holes busted and cracks. Wondering how to repair the plastic hole areas. Maybe look on ebay if not pricey
  • Saw some people replicating pole with PVC. Common size
  • ALL TIPS and patience welcome

Actually the lights are Safetran 8 inch lights. 12 inch Safetran lights are much deeper and look more like this:

They/Them for me, please.

12x24 inch lights and 12x20 inch lights use the same light-heads. The only difference is the size of the backgrounds.
Here's a 12 inch Safetran light with a 20 inch background:

As you can see, the light-head has the same design as the one I posted above, the only difference is how large the background is.
They/Them for me, please.

Okay Questions 1 and 2

1. The lights are circa 1989. Thats When "SAFETRAN" started manufacturing 8" Lights I believe.

2. These are Safetran 8" Lights. L.E.D inserts are also available.

Spare parts are hard to find, especially safetran ones. Its really hard to just fit in parts from other manufacturers, even if its the same size light. (8") Also my signal receives power from my outdoor plug outlet. The wires run to a relay, then to the signal. Will work on some schematics for you! BTW do you have a bell? I can also give you tips on that if you have one.

Thanks for the reply and info!

If we decide to keep inside initially, will standard 110 be fine? I have no bell. Been looking online but don't have the thickest wallet. Will get one at some point!
