I'd like to see that one in action! I'm curious as to how the lights would work. I mean, I have an idea, but it's just weird looking. They should've gated everything, or nothing.ToledoRailfan wrote: ---------
There is a lot of space for this to be one crossing. They should have just made it two separate crossings or at least a double crossing. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.1689212 ... 6656?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@41.1688976 ... 6656?hl=en
For some reason, the two mast signals have SORS signs.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Too bad... I was quite curious as to how that crossing worked. Notice on the link where it is active, one of the gates are down in the middle... yet I'm assuming the engine that had triggered the crossing was on the very first track in front of the Google car. Unless there was another train that we could not see...ZachL wrote:Looks like the closing of that crossing was permanent. -------------------------
This is a unique setup. There was a spur here that broke of the mainline near this crossing. The spur was abandoned (most likely before my lifetime), for some reason, the railroad kept this signal which I assume was there because of a former crossing that was close to the active crossing but when the line was abandoned and the crossing was removed, the other signal for the crossing was removed but this one was kept and wired to the active crossing, and the signal may have been replaced and instead of a new signal in a new location, they may have decided to replace the signal in the same location, because the signal was so far away from the active crossing, they added a gateless signal close to the active crossing. The signal did not have a crossbuck which was probably because of this strange setup.
This setup however no longer exists. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.9084084 ... 6656?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@41.9081291 ... 6656?hl=en

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I remember a while back, I made an individual topic about the drive way crossings but I thought it would be better off here. I think someone mentioned the setup because they saw it on the Satellite, I think this was before Google made it possible to see previous views of any area. The Fayetteville, North Carolina ones are just a coincidence.ZachL wrote:I believe this crossing has been posted here already.ToledoRailfan wrote:This crossing has no crossbucks. https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0540311 ... 6656?hl=en
