Those look like some semaphore gate mechs, though I'm not sure how many companies other than WRRS/GRS made them.ToledoRailfan wrote: Odd pedestrian gatea (in a rural northeastern Midwestern town). https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3645109 ... 6656?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3652509 ... 6656?hl=en

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Nice to see things back up and running!
So here is my list of stuff I saved up while the site was down:
So here is my list of stuff I saved up while the site was down:
- Starting off with this oddity in Lodi, New Jersey... crossing is next to a Home Depot. 2 different sizes of lights on both signals, and a teardrop bell on the mast signal on the right:
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8860014 ... 312!8i6656
Here is the advanced warning sign/signal:
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8842759 ... 312!8i6656 - Santa Cruz, California... Interesting upgrade going on here. Wonder what the final result looks like?
https://www.google.com/maps/@36.9628332 ... 312!8i6656 - Active crossing in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Train is barely visible behind the tanker cars.
https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3671222 ... 312!8i6656 - Triangle gate and a teardrop! Rio Del Mar, CA:
https://www.google.com/maps/@36.9570346 ... 6656?hl=en
- Railroad museum out in the Mojave desert!
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.9236024 ... 6656?hl=en - Fallen signals from the recent upgrade in Georgia…
It appears the no right turn signal may have survived though.
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.5730336 ... 6656?hl=en - Also from Georgia… not sure why the opposite cantilever is on the left side of the road, plus why are there no lights for people turning right from this side??
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.5793524 ... 6656?hl=en - Some nice old cantilevers in Quakertown, PA. Obviously the mast lights were a recent addition.
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.4411914 ... 312!8i6656 - No railroad… just “crossing”.

https://www.google.com/maps/@31.2681893 ... 328!8i1664 - Check out this gem! A quad gate crossing with very old cantilevers in Continental, OH!
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.0972781 ... 1664?hl=en
The crossing can be seen in operation just this past September at the 9:15 mark in this video:
- Active crossing in Bogart GA in 2008:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.9485118 ... 64!6m1!1e1
A more recent view shows a slight change at this crossing… the lights that were attached to the cantilever where moved to a separate mast… my guess is the lights kept getting whacked, as evidenced by the bent cross buck. Also notice the signal on the opposite side still has 8 inch lights.
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.94851,- ... 56!6m1!1e1 - Active crossing in St. Albans, West Virginia:
https://www.google.com/maps/@38.3885515 ... 56!6m1!1e1
Here is the same crossing… look at the snow piled up on the visors and frames courtesy of Winter Storm Jonas!
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 073&nseq=2 - Interesting crossing in Norwalk, Connecticut:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.1165042 ... 312!8i6656
Check out that first mast signal in the driveway on the left:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.116777, ... 312!8i6656
Here is another view of it… it has seen better days:

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
That crossing was discussed on Facebook, and according to a guy who lives near the line (I think he's a member here), the crossing is sadly out of service.cabman701 wrote:

I believe I posted that one already.cabman701 wrote: [*]Active crossing in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Train is barely visible behind the tanker cars.

But anyways, did you see this pedestrian crossing just down the line from the crossing? It's in action too:
https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3672973 ... 312!8i6656
That crossing is also on the site as well.
One of the mechanical bells there has since been replaced with an e-bell, though it's a bit hard to see in the video. I saw a picture of it on Facebook that shows the crossing in its current state better.cabman701 wrote: [*]Check out this gem! A quad gate crossing with very old cantilevers in Continental, OH!

The crossing can be seen in operation just this past September at the 9:15 mark in this video:
That's a cheap way of wiring up some lights on a signal. Just drill a hole through the bottom of the junction box and stick a piece of PVC pipe into it to run the wires through!cabman701 wrote: Here is another view of it… it has seen better days:

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
The old cantilever is cool, but those mast lights look straight up ugly with how close they are on the new one.cabman701 wrote:Older Streetview image from Ashland, Kentucky shows a nice old cantilever: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.4810155 ... 64!6m1!1e1 Unfortunately it met it's maker sometime in the last few years: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 313&nseq=4
